Best Code of Conduct of ’24: Why NextEra Energy Stands Out

Objectively applying the 27 transparency criteria for the Code of Conduct during our “Transparency Awards” process, NextEra Energy won best Code of Conduct this year after being ranked 16th last year. Here’s their Code of Business Conduct and Ethics.

Bearing in mind again that the criteria are objectively applied, here are five reasons why the company’s code of conduct is so fine:

  1. The code of conduct is easy to navigate.

  2. I like how the captions in this table of contents talks with the plural pronoun of “We” for most of the main captions:

3. The document includes direct links to other policies. Here is an example:

4. The code uses communication techniques that make the code more like a resource and the concepts more “real,” such as Q&As sprinkled throughout.

5. The code sets the tone and presents important themes at the beginning of the document. The “Letter from Our Chairman, President and CEO” mentions the importance of ethics, compliance and integrity, urges employees to follow the code and report a concern:
